Showing Compassion When It’s Needed Most

Sometimes we think of state government as this huge bureaucracy that cares very little about people. Well, there are other times too – where you just have two mothers trying to do the right thing.

Katrina Avent with the Washington Department of Corrections shares about their Sentencing Alternative program. The agency can review an individual’s case based on specific criteria and transition them out of prison up to 12 months early.

Tiffany Torres is a Sentencing Alternative parent and has done well through the program.

But on one frightfully challenging day, these two mothers had to make a decision that would change Tiffany’s daughter’s life forever. This is that story.
